Radar Radio Frequencies  (after Jan 1 2026)

Section 1 Aviation Radar

Article 6
According to the main business of aviation radio navigation, the center frequency used by the ground station (interrogator) of the secondary radar for air traffic control is 1030 MHz, and the center frequency used by the airborne transponder for air traffic control is 1090 MHz.

Article 7
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by the primary surveillance radar for air traffic control is the 1250–1350 MHz and 2700–2950 MHz bands.

Article 8
According to the main business of aviation radio navigation, the frequency range used by radio altimeters is the 4200–4400 MHz band.

Article 9
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by airport surface surveillance radar is the 9100–9500 MHz band. In principle, the 9300–9500 MHz band should be prioritized. If the demand cannot be met, the frequency range can be appropriately expanded within the allowed range.

Article 10
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by foreign object detection (FOD) equipment on airport runways is the 76–77 GHz and 92–94 GHz bands. The establishment and use of the above equipment shall be carried out in accordance with the "Interim Regulations on Radio Management for Civil Airport Runway Foreign Object Detection Equipment" (Joint Circular No. 34 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology [2023]).

Article 11
According to the main business of aviation radio navigation, airborne weather radar uses the same frequency band as ground weather radar.

Section 2 Meteorological Radar

Article 12
According to the radio location business, the frequency range used by wind profiler radar is:

  1. The 46–68 MHz band (secondary service). Wind profiler radar in this band shall not cause harmful interference to radio stations of fixed, mobile, broadcasting, amateur, and other radio location services in the same band.

  2. The 470–494 MHz band (secondary service). Wind profiler radar in this band shall not cause harmful interference to radio stations of broadcasting, space operation (space-to-ground), space research (space-to-ground) services in the same band.

  3. The 1270–1375 MHz band (primary service). In principle, the 1295–1375 MHz band should be prioritized. If the demand cannot be met, the frequency range can be appropriately expanded within the allowed range.

Article 13
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by weather radar is:

  1. The 2700–2950 MHz band, in principle, the 2700–2900 MHz band should be prioritized. If the demand cannot be met, the frequency range can be appropriately expanded within the allowed range.

  2. The 5300–5600 MHz band, in principle, the 5300–5500 MHz band should be prioritized. If the demand cannot be met, the frequency range can be appropriately expanded within the allowed range.

  3. The 9100–9500 MHz band, in principle, the 9300–9500 MHz band should be prioritized. If the demand cannot be met, the frequency range can be appropriately expanded within the allowed range.

Article 14
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by cloud radar is:

  1. The 34.75–35.25 GHz band.

  2. The 93.5–94.8 GHz band.

Article 15
According to the main business of meteorological assistance, the frequency range used by meteorological sounding radio stations (stations) using meteorological sounding balloons and radar location technology is the 1675–1685 MHz band. The relevant radio stations (stations) shall be managed in accordance with radar stations (stations).

Section 3 Water Traffic Radar

Article 16
According to the main business of radio navigation, the frequency range used by shipborne radar is:

  1. The 2900–3100 MHz band.

  2. The 9300–9500 MHz band.

Article 17
According to the main business of radio navigation, the frequency range used by shore-based radar systems for vessel traffic management is the 9100–9500 MHz band. In principle, the 9300–9500 MHz band should be prioritized. If the demand cannot be met, the frequency range can be appropriately expanded within the allowed range.

Section 4 Land Traffic Radar

Article 18
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by automotive radar is the 76–79 GHz band. The relevant requirements shall be implemented in accordance with the "Interim Regulations on Radio Management for Automotive Radar" (Circular No. 181 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology [2021]).

Article 19
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by roadside radar for traffic is the 92–94 GHz band. The interference protection distance with the same frequency FOD equipment should be greater than 1 kilometer.

Section 5 Radar for Hydrology, Geology, Oceanography, and Disaster Mitigation

Article 20
According to the radio location business, the frequency range used by ocean radar is the 4438–4488 kHz, 5250–5275 kHz, 9305–9355 kHz, 13450–13550 kHz, 16100–16200 kHz, 24450–24600 kHz, 26200–26350 kHz bands (secondary business) and the 39.5–40 MHz band (primary business). Ocean radar is limited to ground wave detection and is used in coastal areas. Ocean radar using the secondary business allocation bands shall not cause harmful interference to other radio stations (stations) using the primary business allocation in the same and adjacent frequency bands.

Article 21
According to the radio location business, the frequency range used by hydrological radar is:

  1. The 402–403 MHz band (secondary business), hydrological radar operating in this band shall not cause harmful interference to the primary business in the same band.

  2. The 9100–9500 MHz band (primary business), in principle, the 9100–9300 MHz band should be prioritized. If the demand cannot be met, the frequency range can be appropriately expanded within the allowed range.

Article 22
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by ground-based deformation monitoring radar is the 15.7–17.2 GHz band.

Section 6 Micro-Target Detection Radar

Article 23
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by micro-target detection radar (including insect, bird, and drone detection radar, etc.) is:

  1. The 2900–3100 MHz band.

  2. The 9000–10000 MHz band.

  3. The 15.7–17.2 GHz band.

Section 7 Other Radar

Article 24
According to the main business of radio location, the frequency range used by short-range detection radar and unmanned aerial vehicle-borne radar is the 24–24.25 GHz band. The relevant requirements shall be implemented in accordance with Announcement No. 52 of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2019.
